There are several different organizations that have taken up the cause of protecting the Oak Ridges Moraine. Many of these date back several years.

Earthroots

The birth of this organization dates back to 1986. Where their mandate is not only to protect the Oak Ridges Moraine but helping to preserve the wilderness of the country overall. The predecessor of this organization was the Temagami Wilderness Society with the emphasis at that time being on the red and white forests. Then in 1991, the TWS was renamed to the Earthroots.

This is an organization that takes on the role of being an aggressive advocate for Ontario when it comes to the preservation of its wildlife. They remain proactive through education of the public and encouraging involvement. The Oak Ridges Moraine has been taken under their watchful eye where they will continue to fight for the preservation of this region.

Storm Coalition

The Storm Coalition has one primary goal which is to save the Oak Ridges Moraine(STORM). This organization was formed in 1989. Their focus is on the ecology aspects of the moraine. They work at various levels of government pertaining to both local and regional sectors. They are intent on overseeing the future planning of land that could have an effect on the moraine. They can be considered as a watchdog in this respect. The desire of all those who are part of this organization is to make sure that the moraine is not at risk for development that is not appropriate.

Oak Ridges Moraine Land Trust

This is a group of people that have come together to preserve the Oak Ridges Moraine. The focus here is not to just get the property owners involved but those who live adjacent to the moraine. The ones who get to offer what the moraine has to offer through public viewing. This trust is involved in raising money from doners to help maintain the moraine.
